Tune in to the Data Games on April 16th!
Your Project is based on data; it tells a story you want to tell to an audience you choose; and it has a positive impact. But what you actually decide to do or 'build' is up to you. Maybe it's...
An art project you run with elementary students
A proposal to a university or school district for a class that should be taught
A new TED Talk series created and run by youth
Etc. Be creative! :)
In short, your Story-Project can be anything you want it to be...
...as long as it uses data correctly, is built collaboratively, and it has an impact.
Oh by the way, what might impact look like? Something that...
Improves your community
Solves a problem
Raises awareness of an issue
Makes something more fun, ETC!
Your team's Story Project should include a portfolio and a presentation for the Data Games!
The portfolio is a way to bring together all the details of your team's project. You only need to submit one per project.
Please submit these to your teacher to send to the YDSL team before the Data Games on April 16th!
Intended audience
Datasets used
Summary of story your team is telling
Summary of intended impact of your story
Reflection on your collaboration with team
Summary of answers to data games prep questions from bootcamp
Top three take-aways from all of bootcamp & how they applied to their project
Top 3-5 things you learned from your mentors
One project from each class will be presented at the Data Games! Focus on providing an overview of your great work focusing on storytelling and the impact!
Please submit these to your teacher to send to the YDSL team between April 2nd and April 9th.
The team will prepare a 5 minute presentation; to be followed by 2-3 minutes Questions & Answers
Live presentations are welcome, however video presentations are preferred (mp4 preferred format)
NOTE: You do not need to squeeze every bit of your work into your 5 minute presentation. We recommend you present an overview that is compelling. Your portfolio provides the 'behind the scenes' work that your team has put into creating your story project.
In case you missed it in Boot Camp Week 5's Data Games Prep, here are two documents to help you get started on your Story Project.
Document 1: Getting Started with Your Story Project!
An introductory guide for getting started with your Story Project for the Data Games. Check out the PDF guide above and see what's coming up for your team.
Document 2: Graphic Organizer
This graphic organizer will help organize your team's project. You don't have to fill it out right away, but plan to have this filled out within the first few weeks of Build.
It's good to remember how far you've come and all that you have learned! Below is a list of skills covered in Boot Camp. Use this with your team as you build your story project. Remember your mentors and teacher(s) are here to help you if you can't quite remember a specific skill.
